Why is “collar bacon”?
In order to know how to remove the yellowish colourdarings, you should ask yourself the question of what they are all about – even if you do not want to know that.Usually it is a mixture of perspiration and fat, which is given by the body quite naturally. The collar is reinforced by the stronger friction at the neck region and is therefore particularly frequently discolored. That is why fat-dissolving drugs are the first choice.
The most famous home remedies
White cotton vintage shirts are the easiest to clean. Here, you can also use more aggressive detergents – in the case of colored or dark colors or polyester-containing materials, you should take a little more caution, as the color might fade, but slight discolorations are hardly visible.
Gentle cleanser for more sensitive materials and colored fabrics
The more gentle the detergent, the longer your garment looks new and high-quality.Most of our vintage shirts and polo shirts are made of high quality materials such as cotton or linen and therefore extremely durable and comfortable to wear. However, before washing, always check the material of your shirt and follow the instructions on the wash instructions. You can also find the recommendations for each of our products in the product description.
Lower wash temperatures are generally gentle: 30 or 40 degrees should not be exceeded. If the shirt has been pre-treated correctly, you do not have to wash your laundry even hotter.
Since the discolourations are fats, shampoo can help.Simply massage into the affected areas with an old toothbrush (or even more gently: with your fingers), let it react briefly and then put it into the washing machine and wash it normally – but avoid oily shampoos!
2. RINSE AID
Rinse aid is the fat solver, which gets clean even dirty pots and pans.Just as with the shampoo simply massage with the fingers, let it in and wash normally.
Soda, more precisely Waschsoda, is also known as sodium carbonate and a small all-connoisseur, which is also inexpensive and environmentally friendly. You will find it in every drugstore.Mix soda with a little water (depending on the instructions on the packaging) and soak the yellow spots. Then you can wash your shirts normally.
4. GALL SOAP
Even Grandma swore for gall soap. The good piece is still good service at the stain removal!Gall soap usually contains core soap, which consists of sodium salts and fatty acids and serves as a basis for various soapy products. However, gum soap is enriched with additional components, namely bovine bile. Thanks to the bile acids contained therein, it is particularly effective for the removal of stubborn dirt residues such as grease, protein or fruit stains.Rub the moistened cloth vigorously and then wash the shirts in the washing machine.
Effective agents for less sensitive materials (cotton)
The following effective remedy has almost everyone at home.Nevertheless, you should only treat bright and insensitive shirts, as they may affect color intensity.
5. SALT & ALCOHOL
Rub the salt in the moistened shirt collar, typically dissolved in pure alcohol of over 90 percent (salmiac or spirits also).Leave the mixture that you apply with a sponge on your shirt for several hours (preferably overnight). In the same way, you can also use a dentist.
6. VINEGAR & NATRON
Make a paste of both and place them on the yellowed spots. However, you should then wash the shirt relatively hot, so that the sourish Essiggeruch does not hang in the fabric.
7. BAKING POWDER
If the collar bite has not completely disappeared after washing, you can treat your shirt with baking powder without having to wash the shirt again.Simply spread the baking powder onto the affected areas, rub with wet fingers and brush out after an hour.
Aggressive methods for hardness cases in white cotton shirts
Before you capitulate and dispose of the shirt, use chlorine detergent, washing benzine or high temperatures – but these methods should only be used with white cotton shirts!
8. CHLORINE CLEANER
Stubborn stains can be treated with chlorine cleaners.Attention: Please use this method only for white (cotton) shirts!Shortly before washing, polish on the collar and place in the washing machine after a short exposure time.
9. WASHING MACHINE
Also Waschbenzin is a rather aggressive means, with which you as well as with chlorine cleaner proceed.
10. HIGH WASH TEMPERATURE
Even if the wash temperature should always be kept as low as possible, it can sometimes help to increase the temperature to 60 degrees with pure cotton shirts.Polyester mixes are, however, more heat-sensitive!If the washing is too hot, your cotton shirts can go in.
