Glacier National Park, Montana
Glacier National Park is in the north of
Montana. Together with the Waterton Lakes
National Park on the Canadian side of the
border, it forms the "Waterton Glacier
International Peace Park", which was
established in 1932 as a symbol of peace and
friendship between the United States and
Canada.
The only road through the park is
Going-to-the-Sun-Road, which guarantees
fascinating views of the park. The park owes
its name not to the glaciers in the park
today, but to the glaciations during the ice
age, which gave the mountains their current
appearance. Sharp-edged rocks, steeply
sloping cliffs, over 200 small firn lakes
and more than half a dozen large and
elongated lakes characterize the appearance
of the Glacier National Park. It is no
wonder that this attractive natural
landscape, supported by relatively easy
accessibility, led to the founding of the
national park in 1910.
Glacier National Park has a
well-developed network of hiking trails,
which means that you can easily venture into
untouched regions to observe the diverse
wildlife with mountain goats, eagles and
black bears. Boating, fishing or horse
riding are other activities that you can do
during your stay in Glacier National Park.
Highlights in the Glacier
National Park
- Going-to-the-Sun Road
The only road through the park is also
its biggest attraction. Breathtaking
views await you on the winding road.
- Headquarters District
During the walking tour, which is
supported by audio content, you will see
the different architectural styles that
were used when building buildings in the
park.
- Guided activities
The rangers in the park are happy to
tell you more about the unique flora and
fauna in the park. Go exploring
together!
