Corpus Christi, Texas

In Corpus Christi there is a gentle sea breeze all year round, which seems to clear the endless blue sky of the Gulf of Mexico from all clouds almost every day. The long, fine sandy beaches and the turquoise shimmering water make Corpus Christi an incomparable swimming and beach paradise in southern Texas. It is not for nothing that the Americans often refer to the so-called "Texas Riviera" as their third coast alongside that of the Atlantic and Pacific. Get to  know a completely different side of diverse Texas -  far away from the usual clichés - in Corpus Christi :

In front of Corpus Christi Bay is Padre Island, a beautiful national seashore and at the same time the longest sand dune island in the world. Stroll between sand dunes and the sea over the narrow, elongated island, swim on the beautiful beaches -  or have fun with your surfboard in the waves. At the adjacent Bob Hall Pier, you can end the day and watch the impressive sunset in the evening with the many anglers.

You should walk across the Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge at least once during your stay. From the bridge with the unusual metal construction you look at the skyline of Corpus Christi -  at night thousands of colorful lights make the bridge a special spectacle. At the harbor, you will probably notice the huge ship that is anchored in Corpus Christi Bay. The USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier that traveled the world's oceans from 1943 to 1991 for the U.S. Navy, is now a museum ship. Get on board and find out what happened to the young men who often had to spend long periods on the ocean liner.
If you're not on the water, visit one of the numerous museums, the Texas State Aquarium, enjoy the city's freshly caught seafood -  or relax in the small bars and cafes.

Highlights in Corpus Christi

  • USS Lexington
A gigantic aircraft carrier that traveled the oceans of the world from 1943 to 1991 for the US Navy and has now been converted into a museum ship.
  • Padre Island National Seashore
The 210 km longest sand dune island in the world can be found in front of Corpus Christi. Padre Island has fantastic conditions for surfing, swimming, walking -  or simply relaxing with a good book on the beach.
  • Malquite Beach
If you are looking for a largely untouched and natural sandy beach where you can simply switch off and be on your own, then Malquite Beach on Padre Island is just the thing for you.
  • Texas Surf Museum
Be sure to pay a visit to the small, quaint and free museum. In the spirit of surf spirit, everything is a little more casual here. You can expect an extensive board collection and expert information about the special surf culture of Texas.
  • Texas State Aquarium
Experience dolphin shows, sea turtles, jellyfish, sharks and rays at close range in the Texas State Aquarium. In the associated Aquatic Nursery, sick animals are cared for and exciting lectures on the sustainable use of the ocean are offered.
  • Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
Learn more about the history of southern Texas in this museum, check out the great artifacts of seafaring, the first settlers and selected works of art from the region. Fun for young and old!
  • Whataburger Field
After visiting family-friendly Whataburger Field, you may understand the American enthusiasm for baseball. The Corpus Christi Hooks, which “only” play in the minor league, deliver a great show every game day.
