You get a soft landing in Havana, where you get a full day to explore the city’s historic streets and modern shops. Let yourself be greeted with salsa music, rum and cigars and a smiling population.
Your cycling journey begins in the scenic Viñales Valley in Pinar del Río. The area is known for its many tobacco plantations. From here, the tour continues through varied landscapes on the western part of the island. Via small bike paths, you get all the way to the coast and get to dip your toes in the Gulf of Mexico, see hundreds of orchids in Soroa and experience real ecotourism in Las Terrazas.
You will then arrive in the charming Trinidad and end your holiday with a little relaxation on a beautiful beach.
Day 1: Departure from Sweden – arrival in Cuba
With departure from Sweden early at night, you arrive in Havana, Cuba in the afternoon of the same day.
Day 2: The cycling journey begins, Viñales Valley
After breakfast you will meet your guide and the group you are traveling with on the tour. You drive to Pinar del Rio, where you visit a local tobacco factory and get a guided tour of the city. Then you continue to Viñales Valley, where your journey on two wheels begins in earnest. Lunch is enjoyed in a typical Cuban restaurant. Then you hop on the bike to enjoy the ride through tobacco fields and past caves, caves and rock formations locally known as “mogotos”. You get to visit the Cueva del Indio, a stunning cave through which the River San Vicente flows. ( F , L ) Estimated cycling distance: Ten kilometers
Day 3: Bike ride to Cayo Jutías
Today you drive to the Sierra de los Órganos in the northwest, where you can enjoy the fantastic views and start the beautiful bike ride all the way to Cayo Jutías. When you arrive at Cayo Jutías, a beautiful beach located on a small island, you first have lunch and then have the opportunity to rent a boat or maybe take a swim in the sea. Day 4: Towards Valle Ancón on two wheels
The day begins with a tour through beautiful landscapes and pristine valleys along the Jagua Vieja road to Palma in the Ancón Valley. You can stop at the country house where Fidel Castro had secret meetings during the Cuban Revolution. Lunch is enjoyed in a lush valley before the tour continues to your hotel which is located in idyllic nature. The hotel is perfectly located for a walk or short walk. Day 5: By bike to Soroa
After breakfast, drive to the Cueva de los Portales, which was Che Guevara’s hiding place during the negotiations with President Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. From here, the day’s two-wheeled journey to Soroa via Carretera Central starts. In Soroa, we recommend that you visit the island’s largest orchid farm with over 700 local and global orchid species. Day 6: Last bike day to scenic Las Terrazas
The last cycling day of the trip for you to Las Terrazas in the Sierra Rosario mountains. The 25,000-hectare area is a UNESCO-protected area with over 800 plant species and a number of rare animal species. Lunch is taken at a farm on the road. ( F , L , M ) Estimated cycling distance: 20 kilometers
Day 7: Towards Havana
After breakfast, drive back to Havana, where you can enjoy the old town and a farewell cocktail with the cycling group at the Havana Club Rum Museum. ( F , L )
Day 8: Transfer to Trinidad
After an active week on two wheels, you now have the opportunity to relax and experience Trinidad and the surrounding landscape at your own pace. You live in a Casa Particular. Most Casa Particulares usually consist of two to three double rooms per home. Each room has a double bed or twin beds, a private bathroom and a wardrobe. Usually there is also air conditioning and TV.
Day 9-11: Experience the local life in Trinidad
Take a stroll through the small, cobbled streets, enjoy salsa music or explore the surrounding area.
Day 11: Transfer to Jibacoa Beach
Enjoy the beautiful sea and the fantastic snorkeling and diving opportunities in the area.
Day 12-13: Beach stay in Jibacoa
Spend the remaining days relaxing by the pool or swimming in the turquoise waters before returning to Scandinavia.
Day 14: Havana
You will be driven to Havana, where your journey home to Scandinavia will begin.
