Italy Administration Divisions

According to countryvv, Italy is a parliamentary democracy. The territory of the Republic is divided into 20 regions of which 5 have a special statute (Valle d’Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Sicily, Sardinia). Under the Constitution of December 27, 1947, which came into force on 1 stJanuary 1948 and subsequently amended, the head of state is the President of the Republic, elected for seven years by the Parliament meeting in joint session; three delegates from each region participate in the session (Valle d’Aosta with only one delegate); for the first three ballots a two-thirds majority is required, in subsequent ballots an absolute majority is sufficient. The President of the Republic appoints the President of the Council of Ministers and, upon his proposal, the Ministers, assisted by Deputy Ministers and Undersecretaries. The government, holder of executive power, is accountable to Parliament and must have the confidence of the Houses. Legislative power belongs to the Parliament composed of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic. The deputies are 630, the senators 315 to which are added the senators for life,
