Corpus Christi, Texas
In Corpus Christi there is a gentle sea breeze all year round, which seems to clear the endless blue sky of the Gulf of Mexico from all clouds almost every day. The long, fine sandy beaches and the turquoise shimmering water make Corpus Christi an incomparable swimming and beach paradise in southern Texas. It is not for nothing that the Americans often refer to the so-called “Texas Riviera” as their third coast alongside that of the Atlantic and Pacific. Get to know a completely different side of diverse Texas – far away from the usual clichés – in Corpus Christi :
In front of Corpus Christi Bay is Padre Island, a beautiful national seashore and at the same time the longest sand dune island in the world. Stroll between sand dunes and the sea over the narrow, elongated island, swim on the beautiful beaches – or have fun with your surfboard in the waves. At the adjacent Bob Hall Pier, you can end the day and watch the impressive sunset in the evening with the many anglers.
You should walk across the Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge at least once during your stay. From the bridge with the unusual metal construction you look at the skyline of Corpus Christi – at night thousands of colorful lights make the bridge a special spectacle. At the harbor, you will probably notice the huge ship that is anchored in Corpus Christi Bay. The USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier that traveled the world’s oceans from 1943 to 1991 for the U.S. Navy, is now a museum ship. Get on board and find out what happened to the young men who often had to spend long periods on the ocean liner.
If you’re not on the water, visit one of the numerous museums, the Texas State Aquarium, enjoy the city’s freshly caught seafood – or relax in the small bars and cafes.
