Crime
Pickpockets are to be expected in markets (especially the “black market”, so-called Narantuul market), in shopping centers, in department stores and in the vicinity of well-known restaurants as well as pubs and tourist attractions Particularly cautious behavior is advisable in the city when it is dark, and outside of the cities there are also isolated crimes of violence, robbery and theft against tourists.
Particular caution is required when using private taxis. Travelers have to reckon with sometimes very high fares; failure to pay can lead to extremely uncomfortable situations with the driver. Taxis should not be used alone, especially by women. It is recommended to take a seat in the back seat and avoid boarding other passengers. In some cases boarded accomplices and the driver robbed the passenger. There are now regular taxis that can also be ordered by telephone (in English).
Due to disease outbreaks (e.g. foot and mouth disease), individual areas of Mongolia may be temporarily closed to tourists.
MONEY
Currency
Tugrik (plural: Tugrig). Currency abbreviation: Tug, MNT (ISO code). There are banknotes to the value of 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 1,000, 500, 100, 50, 20, 10 tug in circulation (5 and 1 tug are rarely found); Coins worth 500, 200, 100, 50 and 20 tug (but are no longer used in practice).
Credit cards
Visa and MasterCard in particular are accepted in banks, larger hotels and tourist shops in Ulan Bator.

ATMs
ec / Maestro card / Sparcard
In the capital, you can increasingly withdraw money with credit and debit cards at ATMs. The same applies to the Sparcard from the Postbank Plus system.

Bank opening times
Mon-Fri 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Foreign exchange regulations
The import of local and foreign currency is unlimited and must be declared for a sum equivalent to US $ 5,000. The export of local and foreign currency is permitted up to the amount declared on entry, minus the exchange amounts.
Currency Exchange
US dollars and euros should only be exchanged in banks and authorized exchange offices, as counterfeit money is increasingly in circulation. Outside the cities, exchanges are only possible at Aimak centers. All exchange receipts as well as hotel and transport invoices should be kept until departure. In some cases, you can also pay with US dollars and euros.
LANGUAGE
Overview
The official language is Mongolian (90%), Kazakh is spoken by around 5% of the population. There are also various Mongolian dialects. Russian and English are also spoken.

Overview
The following items can be imported into Mongolia duty-free (people over 18 years of age):
200 cigarettes and 50 cigars and 250 g of tobacco;
1 liter of spirits and 2 liters of wine and 3 liters of beer;
1 bottle of perfume for personal use;
Goods worth a total of up to US $ 1,000.
Upon entry, each visitor must fill out a customs form, which must be kept until they leave.
Export restrictions
