The Merrimack also provides important habitat for several endangered species such as the shortnose sturgeon and American shad. In addition to providing recreational opportunities for visitors to enjoy nature’s beauty along this scenic waterway; it also serves an important role in supporting local economies by providing irrigation water for agricultural production throughout the region.
