Best travel period

It is possible to travel in Ecuador all year round. In the coastal areas and on the Galapagos Islands, January to May is the wet and warm period with temperatures around 30 degrees. June to December is drier and a little cooler. In July and August it is often cloudy with daytime temperatures between 20-25 degrees. In the highlands, the drier period is from June to September. In the Amazon, it can rain all year round, not every day though and even during the drier season from September to December, always bring rainwear for safety.

Detailed itinerary

Day 2: Exploration on your own in Quito

Quito is beautifully situated in a valley of the Andes at about 3000 meters above sea level. The city consists of an older district and a more modern one. In the old town you will find beautiful historical Spanish churches, cobbled streets and lots of historical museums. In the modern part of the city you will find shopping, restaurants and a lively nightlife. There are also opportunities for hiking outside Quito itself, you can also take a lift up to the viewpoint Cruz Loma at 4100 meters above sea level. You can then hike up to a full 4,680 m.ö.h. and get a magnificent view of Quito and the surrounding area. Another nice excursion is to the “Mitad del Mundo” – the center of the world – the equator itself, which is located just north of Quito. Here you can stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere.

Day 3: Quito – travel on your own

You can stay in Quito a little longer or go on to explore and experience Ecuador on your own. If you want, we book accommodation, excursions and transport.

Weather: You can go to Ecuador all year round. The country has two seasons where it rains more during part of the year and is dry the other part but due to the country’s topography, there are large regional differences in weather. The height differences also mean that there can be large differences in temperature at the different locations.

Highlands: The dry season is from June to the end of September but during this period it can be more windy. It is quieter in the period November to March but in return more rain.

Galapagos:The dry season is from June to December and a little cooler than the rainy season. During the period from July to October, high waves can occur, so if you suffer from seasickness, you should avoid this period. The daytime temperature is about 20-25 degrees and in the water it is about 16-22 degrees. The rainy season is from January to May. The weather is warm and occasionally rainy but the sea is much calmer. The daytime temperature is around 30 degrees and in the water it is between 22-28 degrees.
